Update on ISIS Response to FDA Statement on ESIs
In response to the FDA statement released on April 23rd, addressing the safety and effectiveness of epidural steroid injections.

ISIS feels that the alert was misleading in its message regarding the safety of epidural steroid injections and contained inaccuracies regarding the effectiveness of this procedure.

The statement was released by the regulatory division of the FDA and not the FDA Safe Use Initiative (SUI). The FDA SUI has been working with physician experts from multiple organizations, including several ISIS leaders, over the past two years to help create a set of expert recommendations for the safe administration of epidural steroid injections. It is important to note that the release of the April 23 statement by the FDA regulatory branch was unilateral and unbeknownst to the panel of experts working with the SUI on epidural steroid injections.  Following the release of this statement, the expert panel leaders on this project decided to involve the 14 societies represented on the Multi-Society Pain Workgroup (MPW) to craft a set of consensus recommendations for the safe administration of epidural steroid injections... Read More

This 12.25 hour Clinical Anatomy and Imaging (CAI) course has been developed using a systematic evidence-based approach to address gaps in physician knowledge and practice. The course will be beneficial in understanding the imaging studies which guide interventions, the correlation of imaging with pain syndromes, and the proper utilization of imaging in patient care.

The course layout includes lectures, breakout group sessions, and participant question time.

Lectures will include imaging techniques, basic anatomy of the spine by region, diagnostic confidence, and degenerative pathology.

Breakout group sessions will allow attendees to examine numerous spine cases with each instructor. This will provide an opportunity to observe how different radiologists systematically examine large data sets, filter out extraneous information, and focus on critical findings. The cases will emphasize normal anatomy, normal variants which may stimulate disease, and degenerative phenomena which may be associated with typical axial and radicular pain syndromes.

After thoroughly investigating numerous options, in response to the vexing single dose vial issues and escalating supply costs, the ISIS leadership is happy to announce the formation of a unique partnership with PedsPal, a national physician Group Purchasing Organization, or GPO. Working with ISIS, PedsPal has structured a discount program that is only available to ISIS members. The program is specifically targeted to offer the best pricing on the medications, equipment and supplies that are most important to you. As an example, through the GPO plan, Omnipaque 240 mg/50 ml can be purchased as low as $4.37 per vial. MORE...
